In 1883 Richmond industrialist Micajah Henley began building a large
four-story brick building on Richmond‘s north side to house his growing rollerskate concern.
In this period of Richmond‘s prominence in manufacturing Henley produced many other products including bicycles, wire fencing, machine tools, and reel lawnmowers. M.C. Henley employed more than 300 people at the time. In the years since Henley‘s ownership, the building has housed multiple machining businesses, most recently Mosey manufacturing‘s research and development division. The Mosey family have long been supportive of the community and the arts, allowing the purchase of the factory building to Quaker city Cooperative in 2021. It is our vision to rehabilitate the structure and community within these walls continuing M.C. Henley’s original charter melding arts and practical trade under one roof.
